|Just a little technical data which can help you be a better singer. Most KJs find the uni-directional cardioid microphone the best stage mike as its pickup pattern avoids a lot of background sound. To get your best clarity with this style you need to direct it at a point about one-half to one inch in front of your mouth. Many do not get to hear all the qualities of their voice because they sing over the top, to the side, cup the wind screen or move it too far from the pickup pattern. Two inches away from the wind screen there is a significant drop in volume which is best corrected by the singer. Knowing this, allows you to have your own controllable volume control.
Speaking of the cupping of fingers over the windscreen, have you ever done that and kept wondering why the KJ doesn't remove the ringing sound coming from the speakers. The only thing the KJ can do is to bring down your volume a little to remove "some" of the ringing. The pattern of the cardioid mike is as the name suggests heart shaped to avoid picking up extraneous noise. This is done by manipulating the receiver mike's magnetic waves which are in turn affected by your fingers proximity. Some few have learned how to cup successfully by rotating the mike into a position which allows the wave to work without interference but only a few know their mike that well.
When using the cordless mikes in close proximity to fluorescent lights or other electronic generators, you may lose your vocal but can be controlled with just a two or three degree rotation of the mike's body. These require very little cupping to start ringing quickly.
This past week in review:
Tuesday at the "Tank" Guy Paul notes,"Billy claimed the 25 dollar bar/food tab. Next week's winner is __________. There was a large crowd to celebrate Amorette's 31 years of service and retirement from AT&T. Amazing singers. Most rotations stayed at around 20-25; some sang in one rotation and not in the next, so we probably had closer to 35 people who sang all told".
Wednesday at "Water Tank, TOO" quoting GP's report, "Morgan didn't stay long enough to claim her 25 dollar tab. Next week's winner is _______ for 50. "I had 27 singers tonight. I didn't have them all at the same time. The largest rotation was the second and that was 22.....".
Thursday's "Canary Roost" show was a good show except I still need more "early singers".
The "Tank's" Friday show was a good show but still down from where it should be this time of the year. A lot of the "regulars" weren't there but it still was a fun show. Saturday's show was really off. Many got to sing like the song "Me and Bobbie McGee" "all the songs that driver knew"!
A big thanks for your response to our petition for more Wednesday support at "Tank, TOO"! Please keep it comin'!
